Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has commisrated the family over the death of his “elder brother”, Dr. Doyin Okupe, expressing profound sadness.
Offering condolences to the bereaved family, Obi shared the news via his X (formerly Twitter) account earlier, describing Okupe as an active figure in Nigerian politics and a passionate advocate for a better Nigeria.
“With great sadness this morning, I received the shocking news of the death of my dear elder brother, Dr. Doyin Okupe,” Obi wrote.
He extended his condolences on behalf of his family and the “Obidient” movement, his dedicated group of supporters.
Obi highlighted Okupe’s significant contributions to the nation’s political landscape and emphasised the profound loss felt by his family, loved ones, and the wider community.
Obi urged members of the Obidient Movement and other groups to pray for Okupe’s soul and to offer support to his family during this difficult period.
He offered prayers for the family’s strength in the face of this irreplaceable loss.
Later in the day, Obi updated his followers, reporting a visit to Okupe’s family to offer his personal condolences.
“I assured them that we will stand by them during this difficult time,” he tweeted.
While acknowledging the inevitability of death, Obi stressed the importance of mutual support and solidarity, particularly in moments of grief.
Dr. Doyin Okupe’s life and career details were not immediately provided in Obi’s statements.
Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
The passing of Dr. Okupe has undoubtedly left a void in the lives of his family and the political community he served.
