The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed vital food and non-food items to over 3,500 vulnerable individuals in Borno State, providing crucial support during the holy month of Ramadan.

The weekend-long distribution covered all 27 local government areas, reaching persons with disabilities, widows, orphans, religious groups, and selected households.

The relief materials included a substantial quantity of essential goods, such as rice, spaghetti, noodles (16,529 packages), mats (3,609), blankets (2,200), wrappers (3,498), children’s clothing (1,398 sets), plastic buckets, cups, cooking pots, mattresses, shadda brocades, and other necessities.

Engr. Mohammed Watsada, the Borno State Coordinator of the NEDC, representing Managing Director Mohammed Alkali, emphasized the Commission’s commitment to aiding the most vulnerable members of society.

“This initiative,” Watsada stated during the flag-off ceremony in Maiduguri, “is in line with our Managing Director’s directives to extend support to those in need, particularly during Ramadan. We want to ensure they can observe this holy season with ease.”

To guarantee equitable distribution across the state’s diverse communities, the NEDC partnered with Borno State lawmakers and the state government to facilitate the delivery of the aid to even the most remote areas.

This approach ensures that the assistance reaches those who need it most, regardless of their location.

The NEDC’s generosity extends beyond Borno State. Similar relief efforts are underway in the five other North East states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, and Taraba, reflecting a broader commitment to alleviate hardship across the region during Ramadan.
