Kebbi Governor Thanks Saudi Arabia For Ramadan Food Aid
Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has expressed gratitude to the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) of Saudi Arabia for providing food assistance to vulnerable residents of the state.
The aid, distributed through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), arrived just days before the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Governor, represented by his deputy, Senator Umar Abubakar, lauded the timely intervention at the flag-off ceremony in Birnin Kebbi.
He praised both KSrelief and NEMA for their compassion and swift response, stating that the gesture embodies the spirit of sacrifice inherent in the holy month.
NEMA Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, represented by the Director of Special Duties, Mrs. Fatima Kasim, revealed that KSrelief has partnered with NEMA since 2018, providing food aid to households affected by insecurity and other vulnerabilities across the country. This marks the first time Kebbi State has benefited from this partnership.
A total of 2,450 households across six local government areas – Birnin Kebbi, Dandi, Gwandu, Shonga, Argungu, and Augie – received 59.8-kilogram food baskets.
Each basket contained rice, beans, masa vita, cooking oil, and seasoning. The beneficiaries were identified through a profiling exercise conducted by NEMA in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency.
Mrs. Kasim emphasized that the KSrelief initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to improve citizens’ welfare and mitigate the impact of disasters.
The timely distribution of the food aid is expected to provide significant relief to vulnerable families during the Ramadan period.
