NDDC Boss Calls For Citizen Collaboration In Crime Fight, Highlights Commission’s Support For Police
Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has called for nationwide collaboration between citizens and the Nigeria Police Force in combating crime.
Speaking at the fifth Strategic Security. Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Abeokuta, Ogbuku emphasised the importance of inclusive policing, urging Nigerians to actively participate in maintaining law and order.
The conference, themed “Improving Nigeria’s Internal Security and Economic Prosperity through Inclusive Policing,” saw Ogbuku commend the police for their sacrifices in securing the nation. He stressed that citizen cooperation is crucial, stating,
“If the police are reported to be failing, Nigerians should contribute to the success of police operations by reporting crimes and providing useful information to aid investigations.”
Ogbuku expressed confidence that the retreat, organized by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, will reinvigorate policing strategies.
He advocated for periodic vetting and evaluation of police officers, including psychological testing to ensure emotional intelligence in their duties, and to address unprofessional conduct.
Highlighting the NDDC’s commitment to supporting the police, Ogbuku detailed several initiatives.
These include the installation of 60kva solar inverters in police headquarters across the nine Niger Delta states, with one already completed in Imo State.
Furthermore, the commission has provided communication gadgets to the Rivers State Police Command and repaired damaged equipment, including masts and armoured personnel carriers, in Rivers and Bayelsa States.
Six 250-horsepower Yamaha outboard engines were also supplied, with six others rehabilitated, to bolster crime-fighting capabilities in Bayelsa State and the wider Niger Delta region.
Ogbuku concluded by emphasising the strong partnership between the NDDC and the Nigeria Police Force in the Niger Delta, asserting that these donations underscore the commission’s commitment to collaborative security efforts.
