Julius Berger Promises To Deliver State-Of-The-Art Facility At Groundbreaking Of New Armed Forces Complex
Abuja, Nigeria – The construction of a new Armed Forces Complex began with a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday in Asokoro, Abuja.
Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, a leading engineering and construction company, has been awarded the project, which will replace the existing, outdated facility in Area 10, Garki.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa both attended the ceremony, expressing their strong support for the initiative.
The CDS emphasised the inadequacy of the current complex, which was intended to serve as a temporary base for the Army, Air Force and Navy. He stated that the new complex is critical to resolving this long-standing issue.
Gen. Musa emphasised the new complex’s strategic location, noting that its proximity to Mpape and Asokoro Rocks contributes to increased security.
He praised Julius Berger’s track record of timely and efficient completion of similar sensitive projects, emphasising that their selection was deliberate.
President Tinubu echoed the CDS’ sentiments, emphasising the project’s importance in strengthening the Armed Forces’ capabilities and resilience in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign.
He challenged stakeholders to complete the first phase of the complex by the end of his administration, urging them to begin work immediately.
He further expressed confidence in the military’s ability to overcome current challenges, stating, “You never lost any war before. You will win this war.”
Julius Berger Managing Director, Engineer Peer Lubasch, expressed the company’s honour in being selected for the project, highlighting their 60-year history of constructing priority infrastructure in Nigeria with integrity and professionalism.
He commended President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening the Armed Forces and lauded his leadership in various sectors, including the fight against insecurity, forex market reform, and minimum wage increases.
The new complex, designed to accommodate approximately 3,000 personnel, will encompass four buildings with a total gross floor area exceeding 100,000 square meters.
Facilities will include offices, meeting rooms, operational centres, libraries, gyms, canteens, and specialised services. A 1,500-capacity conference hall is also planned.
The project is expected to significantly enhance the operational efficiency and effectiveness of Nigeria’s Armed Forces.
The ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the Defence Minister, Information Minister, Service Chiefs, Inspector General of Police, and heads of other security and intelligence agencies.
Julius Berger’s team was led by Dr Lubasch, alongside other senior executives.
