NDDC Promises Completion Of Owerri-Port Harcourt Road Repairs Before Rainy Season
Ohaji/Egbema, Imo State– The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has pledged to complete the reconstruction of damaged sections of the Owerri-Port Harcourt Road between Umuapu and Umuagwu in Imo State before the rainy season begins.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, NDDC Managing Director, gave this assurance during an inspection of the ongoing emergency rehabilitation work at the Rivers-Imo state boundary.
Accompanied by the Executive Director of Projects, Sir Victor Antai, and other NDDC directors, Dr. Ogbuku expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and mandate to urgently address the deteriorated state of crucial roads in the Niger Delta.
He emphasised that the road repairs align with President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The MD emphasised the severity of the road’s condition, claiming that emergency measures were required.
Earlier in the day, the NDDC team inspected the completed Irrua-Ewu-Agbede-Aviele road in Edo State, demonstrating a regional commitment to road infrastructure improvement.
Dr. Ogbuku expressed satisfaction with the progress made on the Owerri-Port Harcourt road repairs and praised the contractor for reaching the milestone.
He urged them to move quickly in order to complete the project on time, citing the cooperation of local communities and road users.
Engr. Mohammed Ibrar, the lead engineer, assured that quality would not be compromised despite the accelerated pace of work, pointing out the extensive excavation and refilling required.
The project’s positive impact can already be felt. Mr. Mark Ibe, a commercial bus driver who frequently uses the route, expressed his appreciation for the NDDC’s intervention, emphasising the significant relief it provides to commuters and transporters who had previously suffered greatly due to the road’s poor condition.
The NDDC’s commitment to restoring the vital transport link is a positive development for the region.
