NDDC Nears Completion of Irrua-Ewu-Agbede Road Reconstruction In Edo State
BENIN CITY, EDO STATE – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is nearing completion of the emergency reconstruction of the Irrua-Ewu-Agbede Road in Edo State’s Uhunwonde/Esan West Local Government Area.
NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, expressed his satisfaction during an on-site inspection with Executive Director of Projects, Sir Victor Antai.
According to Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director, Corporate Affairs NDDC, the project, which was initiated due to the road’s severely deteriorated condition, has made significant progress.
He emphasised the significant work that had already been completed, which included extensive sand-filling, stone-base construction, earthworks, and asphalting.
The Ewu-Agbede section is now fully motorable, he announced, and work is moving quickly on the remaining 1.7-kilometer Irrua section, where 300 meters of asphalting have already been completed.
Dr. Ogbuku emphasised the road’s strategic importance, claiming that reconstruction is critical for economic growth and connectivity.
“This is a link road connecting the north and south, which is critical for the transportation of agricultural and economic goods,” he said.
“The disruption caused by its poor condition impacted perishable goods and drove up food prices. This intervention addresses a critical need identified by President Bola Tinubu.
When completed, the Irrua-Aviele project will seamlessly connect with the Benin-Irrua road project, which is currently being implemented by the Federal Ministry of Works.
Dr. Ogbuku praised President Tinubu for creating an environment conducive to development in the Niger Delta and throughout Nigeria, noting that the project is consistent with the President’s “Renewed Hope” agenda to improve Nigerians’ lives by facilitating the transportation of people and goods.
