Awka, Anambra State – Following a recent surge in violence, which included the brutal killings of eight civilians and two security operatives in Ihiala, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo is launching a comprehensive security operation, “Operation Udo Ga-Achi” (Operation Peace Shall Reign), in January.

Dr. Law Mefor, the state’s Commissioner of Information, announced the initiative, which will include the training and deployment of forest guards to bolster security efforts.

The operation is in direct response to the increasing activity of gunmen operating from the state’s forests.

Dr. Mefor emphasised the government’s commitment to a multifaceted approach aimed at restoring peace and security, leaving “no stone unturned.”

A key component will be the inclusion of trained forest guards in the operation, who will collaborate with local vigilantes to clear criminal elements from forested areas.

Operation “Udo Ga-Achi” will use advanced surveillance technology, such as drones and CCTV cameras, to monitor criminal activity.

Branded vehicles will conduct stop-and-search operations with the goal of apprehending offenders as quickly as possible.

Forest guard training will be critical in coordinating efforts with existing security personnel and local authorities, allowing for a more robust response to potential threats.

Amb. Dr. John Metchie, Deputy Commander-General (Intelligence Unit) of the Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS), has expressed strong support for Governor Soludo’s initiative, praising the NFSS’s integration into the state’s security architecture.

Metchie believes that a collaborative effort between forest guards and other security agencies will successfully eliminate criminal hideouts in Anambra’s forests and bushes.
