Tinubu’s Media Chat: Pro-Government Groups Hail Economic Policies, Dismiss Criticisms
Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu’s first media chat has been met with resounding praise from two prominent pro-government groups, The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) and the Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG), who lauded his economic vision and defended his controversial policies.
Both groups issued statements highlighting what they described as the President’s clear understanding of Nigeria’s economic challenges and his commitment to implementing effective solutions.
TMV, in a statement signed by Chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and Secretary Sunday Shedrach, focused on the President’s announcement of plans to procure 2000 tractors for Nigerian farmers.
They hailed this initiative as a crucial step towards modernizing agriculture, moving away from outdated methods and boosting food security.
The group also emphasised the President’s acknowledgement of the hardships caused by fuel subsidy removal, but argued that the resulting increased competition and reduced prices demonstrate the benefits of a free market economy.
They further lauded Tinubu’s clarification of several issues surrounding the policy and expressed confidence in the administration’s commitment to alleviating hardship.
TMV concluded by urging Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support of the Tinubu administration.
TMSG, in a separate statement signed by Chairman Emeka Nwankpa and Secretary Dapo Okubanjo, adopted a broader perspective, praising what they characterised as Tinubu’s “sound grasp” of the Nigerian economy.
They highlighted the President’s firm stance on fuel subsidy removal, describing it as a “bold” decision essential for the country’s long-term prosperity.
They praised his rejection of price controls, interpreting it as a commitment to the principles of supply and demand.
TMSG also emphasised the significance of the President’s agricultural mechanization program, including plans for a local assembly plant for farm equipment, and the $2.5 billion investment secured from JBS, a Brazilian meat packaging company, following the establishment of a new Ministry of Livestock Development.
The group further applauded the creation of new ministries dedicated to the Marine and Blue Economy and the Creative Economy, showcasing, according to TMSG, the President’s forward-thinking approach to diversifying the economy.
TMSG also hailed Tinubu’s proposed tax reforms, countering criticisms by claiming the reforms are ultimately pro-poor, acknowledging potential areas for concession.
Finally, they expressed confidence in the President’s ambitious goal of reducing inflation by more than 50%, from 34.6% to 15%, urging Nigerians to view the media chat as a demonstration of the administration’s economic competence.
Both TMV and TMSG’s statements largely reiterate the government’s narrative surrounding the controversial fuel subsidy removal and other economic policies.
While acknowledging the associated hardships, they emphasised the long-term benefits and expressed unwavering confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to navigate the challenges and deliver on his promises.
The statements, however, lack independent analysis and critical evaluation of the government’s policies and their actual impact on the Nigerian populace.
The absence of dissenting voices or counterarguments leaves a significant gap in providing a balanced perspective on the President’s economic strategy and its efficacy.z
