Nigerian Government Denounces Fake Ambassadorial Nominee List Circulating Online
Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Federal Government has categorically dismissed a list of ambassadorial nominees that has been circulating on social media as fraudulent.
In a statement issued Sunday by Kimiebi Ebienfa, acting spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government insisted that no such list had been approved by President Bola Tinubu.
The statement stated unequivocally that the appointment of ambassadors remains solely the President’s responsibility, and that no appointments had been made.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the general public to disregard the fake list of Ambassadorial nominees…”As a result, the purported list should be discounted,” according to the statement.
The announcement comes as the public eagerly awaits the appointment of new ambassadors.
All Nigerian ambassadors were summoned to the country last year, leaving several foreign missions without heads of mission.
This has sparked widespread speculation and the proliferation of unofficial nominee lists online, including the one officially debunked by the government.
The Ministry’s firm denial is intended to quell misinformation and manage expectations as Nigerians await the President’s official announcement on ambassadorial appointments. The exact date and time of these appointments is unknown.
