Umuahia, Abia State –  A group of 30 Permanent Secretaries who forcefully retired from the Abia State Civil Service last October are demanding immediate payment of their retirement benefits.

In a press conference held at Abia Hotels Umuahia, the retired officials highlighted their concerns over the non-payment of their gratuities, severance allowances, and furniture allowances.

One year after their abrupt retirement, the group claims that despite Governor Alex Chioma Otti’s initial promise to settle their entitlements, they are yet to receive any payment.

“We have given our lives and time in service to Abia State,” stated Barr. Nkwachukwu Agomuoh, speaking on behalf of his colleagues.

“We deserve our wages. We’ve tried every channel to reach the Governor and relevant officials but have been met with silence. We are forced to appeal to the public through the media.”

Chief Okechukwu Ihedioha expressed hope that Governor Otti, known for his commitment to fulfilling promises, will honour his word and ensure their entitlements are paid.

He urged the Governor to intervene and ensure the Accountant-General releases the severance and furniture allowances, which were reportedly approved months ago.

While acknowledging the significant strides made by the Governor in his 17 months in office, the retired Permanent Secretaries stressed the importance of extending that goodwill to them.

The non-payment of their entitlements has created financial hardship for their families and negatively impacted the morale of serving Civil Servants, who are witnessing the unfair treatment of their former colleagues.

This situation raises concerns about the welfare of retired civil servants in Abia State and the government’s commitment to ensuring their financial security after years of s.
