NSCDC Officers Warned Against Compromising National Security

Abuja, Nigeria – The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Ahmed Audi, has issued a stern warning to NSCDC officers deployed to Fertiliser Blending Plants across the country, emphasising the critical importance of their role in safeguarding national security.

In a message delivered during a three-day training program organised by the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Audi, represented by Assistant Commandant General Abdulkadir Sulu, stressed the potential consequences of any compromise.

“It is imperative that you understand the gravity of your responsibilities,” Audi said.

“These fertilizers must not get into the wrong hands. Any action that could lead to a compromise will negatively impact public trust and confidence in the NSCDC.”

The training programme, designed to enhance the officers’ capabilities within the Chemical, Biological Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive Unit (CBRNE), focused on counter-terrorism measures and intelligence gathering.

Audi further emphasized the need for zero tolerance towards economic sabotage, warning that any officer caught engaging in such activities would face dismissal and prosecution.

The National Coordinator of the NCTC, Major General Adamu Laka, highlighted the strategic importance of the Fertilizer Blending Plants.

“They are critical to our national security by promoting agricultural productivity,” he stated.

“However, due to the presence of sensitive chemical and material components, these plants require significant security measures.

Your mission is to ensure these materials do not fall into the hands of non-state actors and criminal elements.”

The training programme underlines the NSCDC’s commitment to safeguarding national security and ensuring the smooth operation of the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative, a vital programme aimed at boosting agricultural production.

The officers are being equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively combat potential threats and safeguard the nation’s food security.
