This move seeks to prevent the Ekwerekwu family from interfering with the Onitsha Sports Club premises and any further demolition of structures.

The Incorporated Trustees of Onitsha Sports Club, represented by their President, Chief Dan Okafor, and other leading figures, are seeking to halt the actions of the Ekwerekwu family, claiming they are wrongfully encroaching on the club’s land and destroying valuable structures.

The motion for interlocutory injunction, filed as No. 0/285M/2024, specifically targets Harold Ekwerekwu, Valentine Ekwerekwu, Nonso Ekwerekwu, Obi Ekwerekwu, Igweze Ekwerekwu, and Benjamin Ekwerekwu, claiming they are attempting to seize ownership of the land.

The Onitsha Sports Club alleges that the Ekwerekwu family has already destroyed structures worth N1.05 billion and threatens to demolish the remaining structures valued at N3 billion.

The club claims that the land is legally theirs, citing a building certificate of occupancy dated October 20, 1997.

They believe that this injunction is necessary to protect the club’s remaining structures and prevent further escalation of the situation.

The case now moves to the regular court in Onitsha, where the Administrative Judge will decide whether to assign it to another judge or hear the motion themselves.

The outcome of this case will determine the fate of the Onitsha Sports Club and its valuable land, a key gathering place for senior citizens in the region.
