‘God, Not Matawalle, Is Our Sponsor,’ Bandit Leader, Turji Denies Political Backing Amidst Zamfara Accusations
Zamfara State, Nigeria – In a shocking turn of events, notorious bandit leader Bello Turji has publicly denied receiving any political backing, specifically rejecting claims that former governor and current Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, is sponsoring his group’s activities.
Turji’s statement comes amidst a heated public dispute between Matawalle and his successor, Governor Dauda Lawal, over accusations of supporting terrorism in Zamfara State.
In a newly released video, Turji stated that neither Matawalle nor any other political figure is behind his group’s actions.
He asserted, “Governor Dauda Lawal accusing Bello Matawalle of being terrorist sponsors won’t solve anything.
“When Matawalle was governor, who was sponsoring us? Likewise, when Abdulaziz Yari was governor, who was sponsoring us? No one is supporting us except God.”
Turji’s declaration appears to exonerate Matawalle from the allegations, adding a new twist to the escalating political crisis in Zamfara State.
Both politicians have been locked in a bitter war of words, with Matawalle recently challenging Lawal to swear on the Quran that he is not involved in the state’s banditry crisis.
With Turji’s statement, the accusations against Matawalle seem to lose weight, although it remains unclear what Turji’s true motivations are for making this public declaration.
The ongoing banditry crisis in Zamfara State has resulted in countless deaths and displaced thousands of civilians.
The recent accusations and counter-accusations have only added to the growing tension and uncertainty in the region.
This development is likely to have significant implications for the political landscape in Zamfara State, particularly as the ongoing dispute between Matawalle and Lawal continues.
