Yobe Governor Urges Unity Amidst Diversity, Highlights Education Investments
Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has urged the people of the state to prioritise unity over divisive sentiments.
Governor Buni, speaking at a reception honouring Barrister Baba Dala Fika, a newly appointed Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), emphasised the importance of instilling a sense of belonging in all citizens, regardless of cultural, ethnic, political, or religious affiliations.
“We will not allow cultural, ethnic, political, social status, and religious differences to define who we are or our people’s unity,” he stated.
The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritising education as a key driver of development. He highlighted a variety of initiatives, including:
All school-aged children receive free education: The government is investing in infrastructure, manpower, and exam fees to ensure that everyone has access to high-quality education.
Support for professional studies: The state has sponsored over 500 law graduates to pursue professional certificates at the Nigeria Law School, as well as students in medicine and accounting.
International scholarships: The government has sponsored over 230 students to study in India, with 171 recent graduates returning to the state.
Furthermore, over 38,000 Yobe students are pursuing a variety of degrees both domestically and abroad.
Governor Buni acknowledged the Education Trust Fund board’s significant contributions and thanked the Yobe people for their support.
He emphasised the importance of working together to create a state that values unity and belonging.
This speech exemplifies Governor Buni’s vision for a united Yobe State, with education catalyzing progress.
His emphasis on inclusivity and investment in human capital development promises a better future for the state and its people.
