APGA Charges Candidates To Secure Victory In Anambra LG Elections, Declares No Room For Rigging
By Chuks Eke*
Onitsha, Anambra State – With the September 28th local government chairmanship and councillorship elections quickly approaching, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has rallied its candidates in Anambra state to secure victory in all 21 local government areas and 326 wards.
Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa, the party’s national chairman, spoke to party members at the Onitsha South Local Government Secretariat, emphasising that the era of election rigging is over.
“APGA will not rig elections for anyone,” he stated, emphasising the party’s commitment to holding fair and transparent elections. “Rigging is outdated, outmoded, and illegal.”
Ezeokenwa’s speech centred on the upcoming elections in Onitsha South, a council area described as APGA-dominated. He expressed confidence in the party’s ability to win all 17 wards, despite internal and external pressures.
“We understand the deep commitments and sacrifices we have made to the APGA, and we will uphold it until the end,” he said, handing the party flag to Chief Emeka Orji, the chairmanship candidate for Onitsha South.
Orji’s candidature was supported by prominent APGA figures such as Anthonia Tabansi-Okoye and Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche, both former Onitsha South representatives in the Anambra State Assembly.
Sir Peter Okala, State Director of Campaign for the Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA) APGA Support Group (AASG), expressed confidence in Orji’s chances, citing his leadership abilities as current chairman of the Onitsha South Local Government Transition Committee.
Other notable figures, including Chinedu Ezekwike, Chief Emmanuel Idoko, Chief Bonaventure Muo, Chief Mike Okigbo, Chief Daniel Okafor, Chief Okwudili Obinwanne, and Hon. Afam Udeogalanya, expressed unwavering support for the APGA and its candidates, emphasising the party’s commitment to fair and transparent elections.
With the elections just a few weeks away, the APGA is bracing for a close race, determined to win in all local government areas of Anambra state. The party’s emphasis on fair play, combined with its strong support base, point to a close race.
