BREAKING: Nigerian Government Hikes Passport Fees By More Than 300%, With Least Costing N50,000
The Nigerian government has given the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) permission to raise the fees for Nigerian passports by over 300 per cent.
The 32-page passport, which costs N35,000 as of the beginning of next month, will be issued for N50,000, while the 64-page passport with ten years validity, which currently costs N70,000, will be issued for N100,000.
Kenneth Udo, the NIS spokesman, said in a statement on Wednesday that the decision was made as part of efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigeria passport.
He stated that the federal government approved an increase in passport fees, which will take effect September 1, 2024.
He stated, “Based on the review, a 32-page passport booklet with 5 years validity previously charged at thirty-five thousand naira (N35,000.00), will now
be Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00), while a 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity, which was previously priced at N70,000.00, will now cost N100,000.00.
However, he stated that the Diaspora fees remain unchanged.
Udo stated that the Nigeria Immigration Service regrets any inconvenience caused by this increase to prospective applicants.
He assured Nigerians of NIS
unwavering commitment to transparency and high-quality service delivery at all times.
