Leaders Must Make Sacrifices Amidst Cost Of Living Crisis, Says Reuben Abati
Dr. Reuben Abati, a renowned journalist, author, and social commentator, recently joined Duke on the Muvmnt studio for a light-hearted discussion on governance, politics, and the economy.
No topic was off the radar…Abati criticised the government’s decision to renovate the presidential and vice-presidential residences for a whopping 21 billion naira, saying, “How can they justify spending billions on renovations when people are struggling to survive? “It is unacceptable and tone-deaf,” he stated. “We are facing a cost-of-living crisis, and you are asking us to make sacrifices… why are you not making sacrifices?”
Abati also emphasised the importance of social media responsibility, citing instances of abuse by individuals lacking empathy and civility. He cautioned against the government’s potential regulation of social media, citing the risk of abuse and the erosion of free expression.
Abati argued passionately that governance should be about the people, not personal interests. “In light of the current cost of living crisis, leaders must make sacrifices. “It is time for them to prioritise the people.” Many Nigerians feel neglected by their leaders, and his words echo those sentiments.
Duke Rants on the Muvmnt Studio features a collection of rants about life and its essence. According to the Duke, “I see life differently.” I do not see life in the order that society has assigned us.
