Women’s Group, WOMAN, Urges Protesters To Be Peaceful
From Rhoda Godwin in Yenagoa*
A non-governmental organisation, Women Organised for Mentorship and Advocacy Network (WOMAN), has urged young people in the country to protest bad governance peacefully.
Lady Eunice Nnachi, Executive Director of WOMAN, urged the youths not to engage in unnecessary destruction of government and public facilities, noting that such destruction would have a significant negative impact on the economy and infrastructure.
Lady Nnachi went on to say that the NGO also believes in dialogue, and she is optimistic that through dialogue and collaboration, long-term changes can be achieved in the near future.
According to her, “we are calling for a peaceful and orderly protest to create an awakening in government so that the right steps can be taken in the interests of all Nigerians.”
“I completely support the protest; our support is based on the premise that it is a civic right for citizens to press for change and express their displeasure, but the protest must be conducted in an orderly manner.
She also urged all security agencies to provide adequate protection for protesters in order to prevent the infiltration of unwanted elements.
