Edo Votes: INEC To Begin Online Accreditation For Media On July 8
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that its portal will be open for the online accreditation of journalists and media organisations interested in covering the Edo State governorship election.
The Edo governorship election is scheduled for September 21, 2024.
In April 2024, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) published the final list of 17 candidates for the election.
Notable candidates include Ighodalo Asuerinme of the Peoples Democratic Party (disqualified by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday), Okpebholo Monday of the All Progressives Congress, Patient Ndidi of the People’s Redemption Party, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party, among others.
The commission stated on Friday that its portal will be open on Monday, July 8, and close on September 5.
Media organisations are urged to ensure their reporters are registered within this timeframe, as no extensions will be granted after the deadline.
The notice read, “INEC wishes to announce the commencement of online accreditation for journalists and media organisations intending to cover the Edo State governorship election.
“Media organisations interested in deploying journalists to cover the election are, by this notice, expected to apply via the commission’s website.
“The portal will open on Monday, July 8, 2024, and will close at midnight on Thursday, September 5, 2024. Late submissions will not be accepted, as the portal will automatically shut down at that time. No extensions will be granted.”
