Julius Berger Launches Vocational Support Scheme

The first edition of the Julius Berger Vocational Support Programme began with the company’s Director, Administration, Alh. (Dr.) Abdulaziz Kaita told the new trainees that Nigeria’s leading engineering construction company, Julius Berger, has always been an enthusiastic partner in progress with governments at all levels of the country.

Julius Berger has always been a progress partner with the government, and part of our contribution to society is to have vocational training as a way forward for the country, he stated.

He admonished the Programme participants to work hard and asked questions to improve their employability when they graduate in a few months.

Speaking about the process of selecting participants for the programme, the Director stated that the 36 trainees should consider themselves fortunate to have emerged from over 9,000 applicants.

He was full of admiration for the female participants, whom he described as extremely fortunate and rightfully so.

He said, “I am overjoyed that we have women here. This is because educating a man only educates an individual, whereas educating a woman educates an entire nation.”

In his speech, the Head of the Human Resources Department, Mr Olorumfemi Ojomo, welcomed the trainees and stated that Julius Berger Nigeria Plc takes the Vocational Support Programme seriously, so a Director from the company was present to address them.

He stated that trainees have a lot to learn, including benefits such as quality training, certification, tool support, and mentorship.

The Julius Berger Vocational Support Programme, a CSR initiative, aims to provide technical skills and certificates to Nigerian youths to improve their employability and socioeconomic status.

Given the rapidly changing nature of the automobile industry, it is a 10-month technical training programme in automotive repair services.

The curricula have been designed to provide training in the following technical areas, allowing beneficiaries to learn skills that will remain commercially viable in the foreseeable future: auto mechanics and battery services, vulcanizing, alignment and wheel balancing, and auto diagnostics.

The programme is aimed at adult Nigerians living in Abuja who have completed their school leaving certificates. It is also for women looking for opportunities in technical fields, as well as people with disabilities.

The company’s Head of Human Resources Department, Mr. Olorunfemi Ojomo, Chief Risk Officer, Mrs. Shakira Mustapha, and Director of Administration, Dr. Abdulaziz Kaita, attended the inaugural event. Mrs. Goodness Onoja, Talent Development and Academy Manager, and Mrs. Happiness Moses of the Media Relations Office were also present.

The Academy’s Faculty members at the event included: Emmanuel Iloduba, Trade Area/Auto Electrical System; Adegbe Adegbe, Trade Area/Program Coordinator; Samuel Ofobotekeru, Trade Area/Vulcanization and Wheel balancing; Mohammed Bin Ahmed, Trade Area/Auto Electrical System; Muhammed Aminu; and Danlami Umar, Trade Area/Auto Diagnostics.
