Group Defends Soludo Over Enforcement Of Traditional Rulers’ Law
By Chuks Eke
The socio-political group, Soludo For Continuity (SFC), has emerged to defend Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s decision to enforce the law of traditional rulers in the state of Anambra. The group is now advocating for Governor Soludo’s continued tenure in office.
Critics had denounced Soludo’s actions, claiming that the purpose of threatening to suspend all of the state’s traditional rulers for bestowing chieftaincy titles on some indigenous people whom the state government viewed as opposition parties was to intimidate these groups in advance of the state’s November 2025 governorship election.
But the SFC in a tacit press statement issued yesterday in Onitsha, by its Chairman, Ugoeju Dr. Mike Ikegulu FWACP, blasted such opponents who are against the enforcement of traditional ruler’s law In the state. SFC queried: “Is it the duty of the Hon Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Tonycollins Nwabunwanne to do the job of the palace of the Traditional Ruler of Neni.? It’s much ado about nothing”.
According to SFC, ” the basic requirement of sending the name of whoever that the Traditional Ruler wants to confer chieftaincy title to Anambra state government was flagrantly breached. There is a code of conduct for the Traditional Institution in the state that stipulates that anyone who would receive a title from a traditional Ruler must first have his bio data submitted to the office of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters for vetting and scrutiny before the festival”.
“Apology of the Traditional Ruler will silence those defending the indefensible and send some signals to others. The issue is whether the law was followed in the letter. Did the Igwe in question and his palace comply? We cannot enthrone impunity in the state”.
“Some aspects of the law protect the sanctity of the Traditional Institutions and prevent usurpers from destabilising the peace of a community. The truth is that the way Anambra State Traditional Ruler’s law is structured makes the institutions part of the government of the day”.
“The Igwes are civil servants of sorts receiving salaries under the state. They can not even travel out of their domain without the knowledge of the state government. That underpins the strategic position they occupy and how highly placed in the hierarchy of Government”.
“The Igwe would have scoured a high social and political mileage if he had submitted the name of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah as required by law and the state government rejects his conferment of chieftaincy title”.
” Laws are made to be obeyed and not sacrificed on the Altar of Politics. Once those in Traditional Institutions are allowed to take laws into their own hands, being manipulated by politicians, anarchy and breakdown of law and order follow. A Society without order is bound to go down in disorder”.
“Suspension of an irate Traditional Ruler is not a matter of Politics but that of flouting laid down rules and regulations.
Governor Soludo’s Second Term does not come in here because what he has on the ground as a testament of achievement for Ndi Anambra In Two years guarantees him a solid passage For Continuity”.
“Gov Charles Chukwuma Soludo, a gift to Ndi Anambra. We’re fully in support of his second tenure. Soludo is here. Join the bandwagon of SFC”.
