The Governor congratulated Prof. Okenwa and his group on a fantastic accomplishment and voiced hope that the University will make significant contributions to the educational landscape in Abia and throughout Nigeria.

Prof. Okenwa stated that Lux Mundi University is the first private university to receive permission from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to operate in Umuahia, the state capital, while presenting the certificate to Governor Otti.

After working under the Governor for more than 20 years in the banking sector, Okenwa paid tribute to him, calling him a mentor and leader. With Governor Otti leading Affairs, Abia State is in capable hands and headed towards real greatness, he said, praising the governor for the noteworthy progress he had made in his brief tenure.

The Pro-Chancellor expressed happiness that Lux Mundi University opened while Dr. Otti is the Governor of Abia, stating that Abians now have access to top-notch postsecondary education at home.

“With God’s blessing, we are here to show the governor the National Universities Commission’s Certificate of Approval, which grants the university a provisional licence to begin operations as a private institution in Nigeria.

“We are thrilled that Abians—especially those residing in and around Umuahia—and Nigerians in general have the chance to attend a top-tier university that is connected to several prestigious international universities, providing them with the best education possible,” Prof. Okenwa stated.

According to the main promoter, Lux Mundi University will prioritise developing students’ skills over theory.

It will have a significant impact on developing new skills. Based on our affiliations, it will also make it easier for our students to travel abroad for work, education, and social interaction because we will be collaborating extensively with our international partners. “It will also greatly benefit our students by giving them hands-on experience in professional and technical aspects of their studies, to the extent that by the time they finish their studies, they will now be employers of labour, not even seeking out white-collar jobs,” he said.

According to the Pro-Chancellor, the university will launch with three faculties that will offer roughly 11 programmes: the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Management Sciences, and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He also mentioned that since the school is just starting this academic year, admissions are currently open.

Prof. Okenwa was accompanied on the visit by Mrs. Blessing Ibebunjo, the Ag. Registrar, and Prof. P. U. Mbakwe, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
