NHEA Gives Special Recognition Award To Mrs. Obi For Piloting Cleft Surgeon Programme
The Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award (NHEA) has recognised Mrs. Nkeiruka Obi, Vice President and Regional Director Africa of Smile Train, with a special recognition award for piloting the cleft surgeon training programme in Africa.
The award is taking place at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 5.00 pm.
The organisers said the award is for the Cleft Surgeon Professional Certification Programme with the West Africa College of Surgeons (WACS) for the training of Nigerian Surgeons pioneered by Mrs. Obi through Smile Train.
In a letter to Mrs. Obi, the organisers said, “Your leadership in this area has been truly outstanding, and it is our privilege to recognise your achievements in this regard. Your advocacy has contributed significantly to improving healthcare outcomes for millions of Nigerians, and your unwavering dedication to your mission has set a new standard for excellence in the industry.
“We are particularly impressed with the impact you have had in Nigeria, where your comprehensive cleft care programmes have helped countless cleft patients overcome the stigmatisation and are now able to live healthy and productive lives.
“Your advocacy and partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria and the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) to train and certify cleft surgeons from Nigeria had been exceptional, ensuring that high quality, safe and free care is provided to patients even from the most remote parts of the country.
“This has not only contributed to improved health outcomes for individuals but has also had a positive impact on the country’s economy,” NHEA emphasised.
“In addition, we commend your collaboration with other health care professionals and organisations in Nigeria through training and funding, which has helped to raise awareness about the early identification, referral and treatment of cleft lip and palate.
“Your programmes initiatives, including your support for various healthcare programs and organisations, have also demonstrated your commitment to the overall well-being of the Nigerian population.
“We are proud to recognise your exceptional leadership, and your tireless efforts to promote improved health outcomes in Nigeria and globally. We believe that your work will continue to inspire others in the industry to strive for excellence and make a difference in the lives of people in need.”
NHEA is an annual event, aimed at recognising and celebrating the achievements of personalities and organisations who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Nigerian healthcare sector.
The awards focus on recognising outstanding performance, creation of new business models, market leadership, transformational leadership and business practices.
The theme of this year’s award is “Investing in Strengthening Our Health Systems,” a narrative that will highlight the importance of investing in strengthening the country’s health systems, which is key to improving the health and well-being of all Nigerians.
It will also ultimately support the development of a national health system that is affordable, accessible, and sustainable, as the system is based on the principles of universality, equity, and sustainability.
