Gov. Alia Appoints Agema Acting Chairman BIRS

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has appointed Emmanuel Terlumun Agema as the Acting Chairman, Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS).

In a statement signed by Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor and made available to Saturday INDEPENDENT in Makurdi on Friday, Governor Alia also appointed Dr. Jerome Andohol as the Acting Director General, State Planning Commission.

Kula stated that while Agema is to take over from Mimi Orubibi-Adzape who was relieved of her appointment, the Governor directed the new BIRS chairman to resume work with immediate effect.

According to the CPS before now, “Agema (was) an Associate Member, Chartered Taxation of Nigeria, until his appointment as Assistant Director Taxes, and head of North Bank office of the agency.

“Governor Alia who directed that the new chairman assume duty with immediate effect charged him on discipline and accountability.

Alia implored Agema to think of the state first and be innovative in order to explore all legitimate ways of increasing the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.

On the part of the Acting DG, State Planning Commission, Governor Alia who charged the Associate Professor of Economics to serve the people of the state diligently, directed him to assume duty with immediate effect.

Before his recent appointment, Andohol who had worked at the Benue State House of Assembly and had a brief stint at the Benue State Planning Commission was a lecturer at the Department of Economics at the Benue State University, Makurdi at the time of his appointment.
