Christians Should Use Kolanut For Prayer, Communion, Says Bishop Nwankwo
Bishop Samuel Nwankwo is the founder of the Daylight Dominion Reality Church, Lagos. He unravelled the mystery of the Kolanut and enunciated that praying with it is not a sin, neither is it demonic in an interview with Collins Nkwocha
Some clerics are of the opinion that a Christian is not supposed to adhere to culture and traditions, what is your opinion on this?
A Christian is supposed to take part in culture and traditions, the real culture that I acknowledge is the one that God established in Genesis1:14, that’s the culture that acknowledges seasons of celebrations and festivities. There is no background or tribe that does not have when they celebrate success, tradition is formed when we appreciate God remembering the day he did the right thing for us.When we talk of new yam festival, our dressing, we are talking about our culture. Culture means good attitude and righteousness. Igbo tribe has “offo na ogu “which means “the spirit and character”,if you have good character the spirit will work for you,if you have bad character the spirit will not work for you, those who have decided to be antagonistic, criticising the Igbo culture should better realise that the Igbo culture is the way God truly wants us to worship him.According to the book of Revelation, every tribe, that means every cultural background was founded in heaven; those who neglect their culture have lost their spiritual foundation because God is going to deal with you according to your culture.
You did a broadcast and advised Christians to use Kolanut as communion because it’s a holy seed, please kindly tell us more about this?
Thank you very much, God created man in his own image and put him in the garden of Eden because he wanted him to be close to nature; is it not bewildering that a common fruit or seed that they ate made them vacate the garden of Eden and turn to wanderers and rovers, it means that what we eat is very important and decisive. I am an Igbo man, Kolanut is regarded as a holy, covenant and spiritual seed through which one can communicate with God, our ancestors discovered it and it’s working; any Christian that believes in communion must believe in Kolanut because Kolanut is for communion. Any Christian that does not believe in the use of Kolanut is not a genuine Christian.
Whatsoever is not bad and it’s part of your culture, please adhere to it. Any culture that does not promote righteousness, purity and sacred life is questionable.
There’s a popular belief that the use of Kolanut is peculiar to demonic and idol worship, what is your opinion on this?
That is not true, the Kolanut is sacred and holy seed that one can use to invite the presence of spirits and unseen forces, you must know that God himself is a spirit. According to the bible, Abraham sacrificed to God, Moses sacrificed to God but someone can offer the same sacrifice to evil spirits and demons, using it to invite their presence. The usage of the Kolanut is what determines which spirit comes around, when I pick up my Kolanut, I beckon on the Almighty God, the God of creation and he answers me, so it’s not peculiar to demonic practices
Can a Christian be involved in masquerading?
It must be noted that masquerading is mainly for entertainment, those days, it was used for display of power, and it’s part of our culture; Jesus didn’t condemn the culture of the people. We also acknowledge that fact that santaclus is also a masquerade, cartoons are also masquerades, using the masquerade in a negative form is bad ,using it for entertainment is good because we need to promote our cultural heritage. The gun is harmful and it kills, when an armed robbery is with it,he causes havoc and destroys, but when a security operative handles it,it’s meant to protect the people, It’s our culture we must accept and use it in a good way.
You did mention that masquerading involves tussle and display of demonic and magical powers, what do you have to say about this?
It’s unfortunate that people always preferre to see the negative side of things, instead of the good side, it’s not only for display of demonic powers,it has its own cultural value. The fact that someone dId ritual for money does not mean that we all should stop collecting or spending money because it’s evil. We should learn to explore the good sides of things, we should have a liberal mindset towards things.I have noticed that once you talk or advocate for traditional things people see you as a devil,we must face it,it’s part of our tradition.
Can a cleric be a title holder or a king?
The problem with this in this part of the world is that we don’t follow things accordingly, David was a king and a prophet.A clergy is free to be the king of community or village because the bible supports it.
