Tinubu Commends Julius Berger For ‘World Class’ ICC Rehabilitation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned the newly renovated International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja yesterday, hailing the transformation as evidence of Nigeria’s commitment to quality and a reflection of his administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He specifically praised Julius Berger Nigeria PLC for their outstanding work in completing the project on time and to a world-class standard.

During a recent ECOWAS Parliamentary Conference, the President, visibly pleased, referred to the ICC’s dilapidated state as an “embarrassment.”

He praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, for carrying out his promise to completely transform the facility.

“Today, we are not talking about renovation; we are talking about rehabilitation,” President Tinubu declared, emphasising the “quality, commitment to details, and good work” that Julius Berger is known for. “It reflects what Julius Berger has stood for in this country for years.”

The President emphasised the ICC’s significance to Nigeria’s vision of becoming a centre for regional diplomacy, continental trade discussions, and global partnerships.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio echoed President Tinubu’s sentiments, praising Wike’s transformative work and strongly implying that Julius Berger was behind the remarkable rehabilitation.

“I am not sure who handled this project, but I imagine it was the usual Julius Berger. “I am just guessing because I saw their quality when I entered,” Akpabio said.

“Mr. President, the renovation, rehabilitation, and transformation that we are seeing at ICC is what we are bringing to this country, whether people like it or not.”

He also praised President Tinubu’s commitment to carrying out projects approved by the National Assembly, emphasising his desire to improve Nigeria.

In his remarks, Minister Wike announced that all ministries and government agencies that use the rehabilitated facility would now be required to pay a fee, emphasising the importance of revenue generation for the center’s long-term maintenance.

The rehabilitated ICC, which has a capacity of 10,000, includes cutting-edge acoustic systems, AI-assisted translation booths, and renewable energy components.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by prominent political figures, traditional rulers, diplomatic personnel, and the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, Engr. Dr. Peer Lubasch and his team.
