Peter Obi Donates N10m To Abia Women’s Empowerment Project

UMUAHIA, Abia State – Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi, has donated N10 million to the Women Fellowship Pastoral Project in Umuahia, Abia State.

Obi announced the donation yesterday on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, highlighting the project’s focus on empowering women through skills acquisition to combat poverty.

The Women Fellowship Pastoral Project, an initiative of Methodist women, aims to improve the socio-economic status of women in the community.

Obi’s visit underscored his commitment to women’s empowerment, emphasising the significant role women play in national development.

“With the female population consisting of about 50% of our population, educating and training our women through different skills and trades will not only empower them to support their families economically but will contribute to the overall reduction of poverty in the country,” Obi stated in his post.

He cited Bangladesh’s textile industry as an example, where women constitute a significant portion of the workforce, contributing substantially to the nation’s economy.

Obi believes that similar success can be replicated in Nigeria through investment in women’s education and skills training.

Obi expressed his appreciation to the founders and contributors to the project’s success, reiterating his belief that productive contributions are essential for building a “New Nigeria.”
