NDLEA Arrests Deaf And Dumb, Others Over Illicit Substances, Intercepts 14.5 Tons Of Ghanaian Loud
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has revealed that that it’s operatives have arrested a male deaf and dumb suspect dealing in illicit drugs.
The suspect was apprehended in Zaria, Kaduna State’s Samaru area. The agency claimed that when he was arrested, 150 grammes of cannabis were discovered while he was selling the psychoactive substance.
Ibrahim Sani, 56, was also arrested in Tirkaniya with 51 kilogrammes of the same substance.
The agency’s largest for the week was the interception of large consignments of Ghanaian Loud, a strong strain of cannabis sativa, smuggled into Lagos from Ghana in two trucks and a J5 bus weighing a total of 14,524.8 kilogrammes.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the anti-narcotics agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, three vehicles transporting jumbo bags of the psychoactive substance were tracked down and intercepted in the Ojuelegba area of Lagos State in the early hours of Sunday, January 28, 2024.
Babafemi added that while blocking the vehicles, two of the drivers jumped out, while the third driver, 66-year-old Nasiru Ojomu, who works with wanted Akala, Mushin-based drug baron Suleiman Jimoh (alias Olowo Idi Ogede, also known as Temo), was apprehended.
The spokesman stated that in the last three years, NDLEA agents have intercepted several shipments of the same psychoactive substance worth billions of naira linked to Temo. The wanted Akala drug lord has since gone into hiding, while the agency continues its manhunt for him.
Babafemi stated that NDLEA operatives on routine patrol around a warehouse sealed at Church Street, Idumota, Lagos Island by the agency as part of an ongoing investigation last Thursday arrested three suspects: Joseph Joshua, Muhammed Adamu, and Balarabe Musa, who burgled the store and loaded 546,700 tramadol and other opioids into a waiting yellow bus marked BDG 447 XD and an unregistered Suzuki minibus.
Last Wednesday, agents in Abuja arrested Emmanuel Paul with 43.5 kilogrammes of cannabis concealed in used shoes loaded into a caravan bound for Gwagwalada in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from Ogbese, Ondo State.
In Katsina state, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Dutsinma-Katsina road apprehended Murtala Isah, 35, and recovered 37,600 tramadol and other opioid pills from him.
Last Wednesday, operatives in Kogi state destroyed 833.32 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa on a two-acre farmland in Iluke community, Kabba- Bunu local government area, while the owner, 49-year-old Samuel Atonila, was also arrested.
