Peter Obi Congratulates Prof. Obi
A notable aspect of those who worked with Mr. Peter Obi is their successful return to their respective careers after completing their work. They have all excelled in their domains, with two of them achieving the prestigious status of Senior Advocates of Nigeria. At the time Chief Alexander Ejesieme attained the title of SAN, he was one of the youngest in the entire country.
Just a few days ago, one among us, Dr. Patrick Obi, reached the highest echelon of his profession by attaining the title of Professor. He has been bestowed the honour of becoming a Professor of Power Systems & Machines.
Individuals who worked with Obi may not have amassed great wealth. This is because Obi surrounded himself with individuals whose focus was on adding value rather than being solely driven by monetary gains. Furthermore, during Obi’s tenure, there were no funds available for misappropriation, as every penny was allocated for the betterment of the people.
When Obi arrived in Awka today for a significant event, the laying of the foundation for the Department of Public Health and the Millennium College of Nursing Science, there was a change in the schedule, shifting the timing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Being a person who genuinely celebrates the achievements of others, he chose to pay a visit and extend his congratulations to Prof. Patrick Obi.
As soon as the decision was made, those who had worked with him and were in the vicinity were promptly invited to join His Excellency. Quickly, Prof. Obi’s house was graced by the presence of distinguished individuals such as Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, Prof. Emenike Obi, Barr. Okoli Akirika, Dr. Chike Ohamobi, Mr. Fidel Okafor, Mr. Mike Udah, Mr. Benji Obi, Chief Paulinus Anagboso, and Ms. Ngozi Okoye, affectionately known as the embodiment of protocol.
Without prior notice, Patrick welcomed Mr. Peter Obi into his home. Together with his wife, they hurriedly arranged and offered “Oji,” beverages, and snacks, almost as if they had foreknowledge of the visit. All of us enjoyed native pears that were also presented.
Obi was comfortably ensconced in his residence, reminiscing and sharing anecdotes from the past with his former workers for an extended duration of more than four hours. Some of them recalled Obi’s unwavering insistence on the importance of competitive contracts, the utilisation of the finest contractors, and his meticulous scrutiny of bills and quotations to ensure the absence of any intentional or inadvertent errors.
Finally, it turned into a delightful mini-reunion, culminating in a photo session, after Obi solemnly wished continued progress for everybody.
Everyone extended their warm congratulations to the latest professor in town. We all hoped that he would follow in the esteemed footsteps of individuals like Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna rather than following the path of someone like Prof. Mahm What?
