President Tinubu Condemns Plateau Bandit Attacks, Promises Severe Consequences

President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the recent wave of bandit attacks in Plateau State, which resulted in the deaths of numerous residents from various communities in the Bokkos Local Area.

In a statement issued through his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the attacks on defenceless citizens as “unacceptable” and promised that the perpetrators would face severe consequences.

The attacks, which targeted the Ruwi, Hurti, and Tadai communities in Bokkos, as well as Manguna and Dafo villages, have left Plateau State in mourning. According to reports, many people have died and property has been destroyed.

President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the attacks, extending his condolences to the victims’ families, as well as the Plateau State government and people, particularly Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

He urged affected communities to fully cooperate with authorities and security agencies, providing information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators and the safety of their communities.

“I extend my condolences to the families of the victims in Ruwi, Hurti, and Tadai communities in Bokkos Local Government, as well as those in Manguna and Dafo villages, where the gunmen launched brutal attacks that resulted in the loss of lives and property destruction,” the President said.

He assured Governor Mutfwang of his unwavering support in ending the cycle of violence in Plateau State. President Tinubu has also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to work with state authorities to provide necessary support to victims and immediate relief to affected communities, including medical assistance for those injured.

He emphasised that NEMA will collaborate with the state government to help affected communities rebuild and recover.

“I am saddened by reports of another violent attack in Plateau State by mindless gunmen. The recent attacks on unarmed citizens are unacceptable.

“I have directed security agencies to track down the attackers, and they will face severe punishment if apprehended,” President Tinubu declared.

He went on to say, “These intermittent attacks have no place in our country at a time when we are working so hard to restore peace and order throughout the country.

“This unfortunate incident will never dampen our determination to protect every Nigerian citizen. Instead, we will work harder to eliminate evil forces wherever they exist in our country.”

The President concluded by urging all Nigerians, regardless of ethnic, religious, or political affiliation, to embrace peace, reject retaliation, and uphold the shared humanity that unites the country.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families and everyone affected by this senseless violence. No community should have to go through such a tragedy. “We must all work together to promote peace and stability,” he said.

The government’s response to these attacks, as well as the threat of severe consequences, will be closely watched by Plateau State residents and the rest of the country.
