Onitsha Trader Hospitalised After NAFDAC Officials Allegedly Loot Her Medicine Store
A female trader in Onitsha, Anambra State, is currently hospitalised after allegedly suffering a severe shock as a result of the looting of her medicine store by officials from the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
A viral video of the incident has sparked widespread outrage and prompted calls for an extensive investigation.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows the trader claiming that NAFDAC officials forcibly entered her store and removed goods without proper documentation or compensation.
The incident has devastated her and necessitated medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a lawyer and human rights activist who represents the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has strongly condemned the alleged actions of NAFDAC officials.
He called the incident “not just an economic assault, but a direct attack on her dignity and well-being.”
In a statement issued today, Ejiofor called for an immediate and transparent investigation by security agencies into the alleged looting.
He stated that this incident follows previous allegations of indiscriminate shop closures by NAFDAC, which he has previously condemned as illegal and unethical.
“This latest evidence, captured on video, clearly exposes officials entrusted with regulatory enforcement, who are allegedly engaging in outright looting and betraying public trust,” Ejiofor stated.
He also demanded that NAFDAC make adequate reparations to the victim and take immediate disciplinary action against those involved.
Ejiofor emphasised the importance of protecting hard-working citizens’ livelihoods and holding those in positions of authority accountable.
He warned that failing to act decisively would foster an environment of impunity and undermine public trust in government institutions.
NAFDAC has yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations, but reports indicate that they are preparing a response.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about regulatory agencies’ conduct, as well as the importance of accountability and transparency in their operations.
