Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, describing him as a passionate advocate for a better Nigeria.

Obi’s statement, released on Tuesday via his X (formerly Twitter) account, comes shortly after the death of another prominent elder statesman, Pa Ayo Adebanjo.

Obi described the double loss as “discomforting,” but emphasised the significant legacies left by Clark and Adebanjo.

He expressed condolences to Clark’s family, the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), and the entire Ijaw Kingdom.

Obi described Chief Clark as a “towering figure” in Nigerian sociopolitical affairs who consistently advocated for peace, justice, equity, and fairness.

He praised Clark’s unwavering dedication to good governance and outspoken support for a better country.

Obi emphasised Clark’s support for his presidential campaign, stating that the endorsement demonstrated Clark’s “passionate desire for a New Nigeria that promotes peace, progress, productivity, equity, and fairness.”

He remembered Clark as a symbol of courage, truth, resilience, and patriotism, and described his death as a significant loss for the country.
