NDDC Pledges Continued Support For Nigerian Army In Niger Delta Security
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reiterated its commitment to assisting the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in ensuring peace and security in the Niger Delta region.
Dr Samuel Ogbuku, NDDC Managing Director, reiterated this commitment during a courtesy visit to the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Ejim-Emekah.
Dr. Ogbuku emphasised the interdependence of security, peace, and development, stating that “where there is no security, there is no peace, and where there is no peace, there is no development.”
He emphasised the NDDC’s ongoing efforts to collaborate with security agencies, including infrastructure improvements in military barracks.
Specific examples included significant contributions to various army operations, particularly the 16th Brigade in Bayelsa State, as well as ongoing projects to improve facilities at Bori Camp and Elele Barracks, such as the installation of solar inverters to reduce reliance on costly diesel.
The NDDC is also addressing requests to furnish the Command Secondary School in Eche and renovate the Command Children’s School in Port Harcourt.
Dr Ogbuku praised the Nigerian Army for its role in restoring peace in the region and acknowledged the significant security improvement. However, he urged continued vigilance in combating remaining pockets of criminality.
Major General Ejim-Emekah thanked the NDDC for their assistance, praising the Commission’s “tireless efforts in carrying out various community development projects.”
He emphasised the Army’s significant partnership with the NDDC in promoting regional peace and stability, citing the visible impact of NDDC interventions in various barracks across Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers States.
He concluded by requesting additional support from the NDDC, stating that the Army would continue to work with the Commission to ensure a secure environment for its operations.
The visit demonstrates the NDDC’s strong collaborative relationship with the Nigerian Army in promoting development and security in the Niger Delta.
