Nigerian Government Approves N80bn For Alau Dam Reconstruction After Devastating Borno Floods
Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving a substantial N80 billion for the reconstruction and upgrade of the Alau Dam.
The dam’s collapse on September 10th, 2024, triggered widespread flooding in Maiduguri and parts of Jere Local Government Area, affecting over one million people and causing significant property damage.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum described the President’s approval as “exhilarating” and a testament to “uncommon leadership and good governance.”
He hailed the decision as “the most gladdening tiding” for the millions of farmers, fishermen, and others whose livelihoods depend on the dam.
The Governor emphasized the dam’s crucial role in Borno State’s post-insurgency recovery efforts, stating that its reconstruction is vital for the resuscitation of agricultural production, a key sector in the state’s rebuilding process.
He expressed confidence that the upgraded dam will prevent future devastating floods, further mitigating the vulnerability of a population already impacted by the Boko Haram insurgency.
Governor Zulum highlighted President Tinubu’s personal visit to Maiduguri following the disaster and the substantial relief aid provided, which offered significant assistance to the affected victims.
He lauded the President’s commitment to nationwide development, emphasizing the importance of this project in the broader context of the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The Governor concluded by expressing the heartfelt gratitude of the Borno State government and people to President Tinubu, assuring him of their continued support for his administration’s policies and projects aimed at achieving national growth and sustainable prosperity.
The N80 billion allocation signifies a significant investment in the recovery and future stability of Borno State.
