Terrorists Attack Kebbi State Border Post, Killing Four Immigration Officials
KANGIWA, Kebbi State, Nigeria – A suspected terrorist group carried out a deadly attack on border facilities in Kangiwa Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Friday evening, killing four people, according to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
The attack, which occurred around 7:20 p.m. on January 10, 2025, targeted the Kangiwa border post.
Kenneth Udo, a NIS spokesman, confirmed that a local watchman and three contractors working at the border facility were killed.
While no immigration officers were killed, the statement acknowledged that the border facilities suffered “substantial damage.”
Udo issued a statement expressing regret for a recent attack by a suspected terrorist group.
He expressed the NIS’s condolences to the victims’ families and assured the public that the service is cooperating with other security agencies to identify those responsible for the attack.
In response to the attack, the NIS reiterated its commitment to border and national security.
The identity of the terrorist group and the specifics of the attack remain unknown, pending the ongoing investigation.
The incident emphasises Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges, as well as concerns about the vulnerability of border personnel and infrastructure.
