Tinubu Demands Aggressive Military Response To Banditry After Damboa Attack
Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has issued a strong call for a proactive military offensive against insurgents and bandits following a deadly attack on a military base in Damboa, Borno State.
Six soldiers were killed in the January 4th dawn raid, prompting the President to express his deepest condolences to the families of the fallen heroes and the military’s high command.
In a statement released Thursday by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended the swift retaliatory air strikes launched by the military, resulting in the neutralisation of numerous terrorists and the destruction of their assets.
He highlighted this as a testament to the military’s capabilities and resolve.
However, the President emphasized the need for a more aggressive approach, urging the military to take the fight directly to the camps of the insurgents and bandits, particularly in the Northwest region, where civilian populations face significant threats.
“The war must be taken to them,” the statement quoted President Tinubu as saying.
While praising the military’s response, the President also ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Damboa attack to prevent future occurrences.
He stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy to eliminate the threat of terrorism and banditry across the nation.
The President’s statement concluded with an appeal to Nigerians and the media for continued support of the military’s efforts to restore peace and security, underscoring the nation’s gratitude for the sacrifices made by its armed forces.
