Mac Allister Expresses Frustration Despite Liverpool’s Point Against Manchester United
Anfield, Liverpool – Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has expressed his disappointment following Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Anfield, despite the result leaving the Reds six points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
While acknowledging a point against their fierce rivals is a fair result, Mac Allister highlighted a lack of control as the key factor in their failure to secure a victory.
“The team is disappointed,” Mac Allister stated in his post-match interview.
“It’s not what we wanted, but in the end, it’s a fair result. I think we couldn’t control the game as we wanted. So, we have to take the point and move on.”
Liverpool fought back from an early Lisandro Martinez goal, with Cody Gakpo equalising and Mohamed Salah converting a penalty to put the Reds 2-1 ahead.
However, Amad Diallo’s late strike snatched a point for the visitors.
Mac Allister pinpointed the lack of control as a recurring issue this season.
“I think we couldn’t get to the positions that we wanted,” he explained. “We looked like we were in a rush.
“We are not happy with the performance at all, but in the end, it’s a point, and we are still top of the league, so that’s important.”
Despite attempting tactical adjustments at halftime, Mac Allister admitted that the second half became a frenetic affair, with both sides creating numerous chances.
He praised the team’s mentality in battling back from a goal down but lamented their inability to protect their lead.
“The mentality is there, and that’s important as a team to come back like we did today,” he said.
“But at the end, when you are winning 2-1 after 75 minutes, you have to defend the result, and we couldn’t do it.”
Looking ahead, Mac Allister emphasised the need to learn from the shortcomings and quickly refocus on upcoming fixtures. “We have so many games coming, so there is no time to think about the past,” he stated.
“We have to think about the future and improve the things that we did wrong.”
Despite the frustrating draw, Mac Allister maintained a positive outlook, highlighting Liverpool’s comfortable league lead. “Exactly. We have to be very positive,” he concluded.
“I think today is going to be a day to reflect, but from tomorrow on, we are going to keep being positive, and that’s going to be important for the team.”
