Okpebholo’s Gaffe: Edo People Will Not Be Distracted By ‘Minor Budget Verbal Slip,’ Says Group
Following Governor Monday Okpebholo’s verbal slip during the 2025 budget presentation at the Edo State House of Assembly on Tuesday, a group called Edo Renewed Hope (ERH) has stated that “a minor verbal budget presentation” will not divert attention away from the key element.
The group pointed out that those who are making a big deal about the slip are still dealing with the aftermath of the Edo Governorship election.
The group, in a statement titled “Avoid Blowing Issues Out of Proportion,” stated that the governor has kept his electoral promises since the first day he assumed the number one seat in the state, adding that renewed hope has sprung up in Edo State.
The group’s coordinator, Comrade Raphael Okoh, and secretary, Imade Osagie, emphasised that a minor setback by the governor does not detract from Edo State’s ability to move forward.
“Our attention has been drawn to the unnecessary criticisms following Governor Monday Okpebholo’s presentation of the Edo State 2025 budget proposal to the Edo State House of Assembly. Unfortunately, some people chose to exaggerate a minor verbal slip during the governor’s speech rather than focusing on the substance of the proposed financial plan.
“In keeping with his commitment to transparency and accountability, Governor Okpebholo presented a detailed budget exceeding N605 billion, designed to address Edo State’s developmental priorities.
“This financial plan focuses on improving public amenities, education, healthcare, and the overall well-being of residents. It is a blueprint that reflects the people’s hopes and sets a clear path for progress.
“It is critical to recognise that speaking in public, especially under the stressful conditions of a budget presentation, can be difficult for anyone.
“A brief difficulty in articulating figures does not diminish the governor’s ability or his thorough understanding of the budget’s purpose and objectives. True leadership is defined not by perfect speeches, but by the ability to achieve meaningful results.
“We urge Edo State residents to rise above such trivial distractions and focus on the core issues—how this financial plan will promote progress and advancement in our state.
“Governor Okpebholo’s administration remains unwavering in its commitment to providing the benefits of good governance to all Edo State residents.”
