NDDC Warns Public Of Fake Facebook Account Impersonating Executive Director
Port Harcourt, Nigeria – December 10, 2024 – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has issued a strong warning to the public about a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating its Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Alabo Hon. Boma Iyaye.
The commission’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, revealed that fraudsters have cloned Iyaye’s account and are using it to solicit business deals and potentially defraud unsuspecting individuals.
“We have become aware of a cloned Facebook account being used to deceive the public,” stated Thompson-Wakama in a press release. The impersonators are reportedly sending out dubious business proposals, falsely claiming to represent Alabo Boma Iyaye and the NDDC.
This activity, the release warns, exposes the NDDC Executive Director and the commission to negative consequences.
The NDDC has alerted security agencies to investigate the fraudulent activity and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The commission urges anyone encountering suspicious activity linked to the fake account to immediately report it to law enforcement.
While the NDDC works to enhance security measures on its social media platforms, the public is advised to exercise extreme caution when engaging in any business dealings supposedly connected to the commission.
Thompson-Wakama stressed that “anyone who deals with such persons does so at their own risk, and the NDDC or its officials will not be liable for any loss or damage from such transactions.”
To verify the authenticity of any NDDC-related business, the public is encouraged to check the commission’s official website (www.nddc.gov.ng) and its verified social media handles.
The NDDC emphasises the importance of due diligence in protecting oneself from such scams.
