FCT Widows Receive Support Amidst Economic Hardship
Abuja, Nigeria – Flame Initiatives, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) under the CINTA Widows Empowerment Programme, partnered with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), The Lord’s Place, to provide much-needed support to widows in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The outreach, held in Abuja, included food items, funds, and other essential materials.
The event highlighted the growing economic challenges facing many Nigerians, with speakers urging government intervention.
Pastor Ola Omosebi, Lead Pastor of RCCG, The Lord’s Place, called on the Federal Government to implement urgent economic solutions without compromising long-term policy goals.
He drew a parallel to the biblical account of Christ feeding 5,000, emphasizing the need for swift action to alleviate suffering.
Pastor Omosebi also advocated for sustained government support for widows, suggesting the creation of a dedicated secretariat to represent their interests within the government.
Dr. Adedayo Benjamin-Laniyi, Mandate Secretary, Women Affairs Secretariat of the FCT Administration (FCTA), represented by her Personal Assistant, Mrs. Kemi Samuel, expressed empathy for the widows, acknowledging the profound impact of spousal loss.
She praised their resilience and urged continued support and encouragement within the community.
Aisha Baba Ringo, President of Widows Organisation International FCT Chapter, offered words of encouragement, advising widows to remain hardworking and persevere despite their challenges.
She stressed that widowhood should not be seen as a stigma or an end to hope.
One beneficiary, Ms Oyeyemi Obende, described the programme as educative, innovative, and supportive, urging fellow widows to remain steadfast in the face of adversity.
Flame Initiatives, the driving force behind the initiative, aims to empower marginalized communities, primarily in rural areas, by providing relief materials and fostering social and economic development.
The organisation works to create positive social change through collaboration with both public and private sectors.
The event underscored the ongoing need for collaborative efforts to address the challenges faced by vulnerable populations in Nigeria.
