Bayelsa Celebrates 13th Annual Thanksgiving Amidst Challenges As Gov Diri Expresses Gratitude
Yenagoa, Bayelsa State – Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has attributed the state’s resilience and progress to God’s grace, highlighting a number of reasons for gratitude during the state’s 13th annual Thanksgiving event.
Held at the Ecumenical Centre in Igbogene, Yenagoa, the event saw a diverse gathering of dignitaries, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, represented by his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, former governors, and prominent figures from across the state.
Despite ongoing challenges, including a recent three-month electricity outage due to vandalism, Governor Diri emphasized the importance of expressing gratitude for God’s blessings.
He highlighted the state’s relative safety and the fact that this year’s flood, though concerning, was not as devastating as the 2022 event.
Diri also thanked the people of Bayelsa for their support during the past year, particularly through the successful legal battles following the 2023 gubernatorial elections.
He acknowledged the efforts of the state’s service commanders in maintaining peace and security.
The Governor addressed the power outage, stating that while the damaged infrastructure is the responsibility of the federal government, the state government has intervened with funds to expedite repairs.
He assured the public that power would be restored soon and emphasized the state’s ongoing efforts to establish an independent power plant.
Apostle David Zilly-Aggrey, General Overseer of the Royal House of Grace, delivered a sermon underscoring the importance of thanksgiving, even in times of adversity.
He lauded the late General Sani Abacha for creating the state, calling it a foundational step in the development and prosperity of Bayelsans.
The event featured musical performances by Joe Praise, the Bayelsa State Mass Choir, and the Royal House of Grace Mass Choir, adding a celebratory atmosphere to the day of thanks.
While challenges remain, the Bayelsa Thanksgiving event served as a platform for reflection, appreciation, and hope, underlining the state’s resilience and its people’s faith.à
