ABUJA – The Nigeria Police Force is investigating an incident involving Hon. Alex Ikwecheghi, a member of the House of Representatives representing Aba North and Aba South, and a Bolt driver.
The alleged assault took place on October 27th, 2024, at the lawmaker’s residence in Maitama, Abuja.
The victim, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya, reported the incident to the Maitama Divisional Headquarters.
According to the Police statement, the FCT Command is currently handling the case.
A video circulating on social media captures the alleged assault, showing Rep. Ikwecheghi slapping the driver and making threats.
The video has sparked public outrage and condemnation of the lawmaker’s actions.
The Police Force has issued a statement condemning the use of the Inspector-General of Police’s name for intimidation.
“The Nigeria Police Force urges the public to desist from using the name or office of the IGP to intimidate others,” the statement reads.
“Such actions undermine the values of impartiality that the IGP’s office upholds.”

The ongoing investigation will determine the extent of Rep. Ikwecheghi’s actions and potential consequences.
This incident highlights the ongoing concern about abuse of power and impunity by public officials in Nigeria.
The public awaits further updates on the police investigation and the legal ramifications for Rep. Ikwecheghi.
