There was wide jubilations on Wednesday at Abatete community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra state following the escape of the President-General of Abatete Development Union, High Chief Ezebinobi Ezigbo, from the camp of ransom kidnappers who had abducted him on Tuesday evening.
The ransom kidnappers had trailed him to his residential home at Abatete while he was returning from a meeting and allegedly abducted him with his private vehicle to an unknown destination.
While on their way to their deadly camp, which they allegedly pushed him into and were following him with their vehicle, they crashed into the gutter and could no longer move, but the kidnappers quickly pushed him into their vehicle and zoomed off, abandoning his vehicle in the gutter.
Sources said as his family members were still expecting a call from the kidnappers on Wednesday morning to mention their ransom, the abducted High Chief Ezigbo returned home safely and informed them that he had just barely managed to escape from the camp of the kidnappers by Providence.
As of the time of filing this report, the escaped victim was yet to explain the rationale behind his escape, as he was said to be reserving his statement for the security agencies since security matters are not discussed in the public glare, but his family members were overwhelmed with joy and thanksgiving for his escape from the kidnappers deadly camp.
Confirming this development to newsmen yesterday evening in a telephone chat, the newly appointed and sworn-in Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, who incidentally is son of the Abatete community, said contrary to speculations that Ezigbo was released by the kidnappers, he escaped from their camp, adding that further developments would be communicated to the public in due course as they unfold.
Dr. Mefor however, warned kidnappers and other criminal elements to depart from Anambra state or be prepared to face the consequences of Governor Solud’s avowed determination to stamp out crime and criminality in the state.
