Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South) has urged the military under Theatre Command, North East ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ and other security agencies to step up efforts to clear Boko Haram remnants in hostile areas such as the Sambisa forests, Mandara mountains, and other hideouts in border communities in Gwoza and Cameroon.

Senator Ndume stated that pockets of recent terrorist attacks continue to cause serious economic setbacks for farmers who have resettled in liberated communities such as Ngoshe, Kirawa, Warabe, Wala, Pulka, and even Gwoza town, the Council headquarters.

The lawmaker explained that the terrorists have resorted to looting their unmatured crops without confrontation.

He stated, “Sincerely, the renewed pockets of attacks recently perpetrated by insurgents have posed serious economic setbacks to our resilient farmers who were newly resettled in liberated communities of Ngoshe, Kirawa, Warabe, Wala, Pulka, and even Gwoza town, the Council headquarters.” This is because the terrorists chose to loot their unmatured crops without confrontation.

“I want to use this medium to appeal to the military and other security agencies to step up efforts to clear remnants of terrorists still hiding in the Sambisa Forests and parts of the Mandara Mountains that border Cameroon Republic and Nigeria.”

The former Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Army, while thanking Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his extraordinary contributions to the development and rebuilding of approximately ten Gwoza communities that were completely destroyed, praised the military’s efforts and sacrifices in restoring civil authority in the area.

He praised the military authority’s deployment of a medical doctor, who is now providing free medical services to over 10,000 Ngoshe people and their families who have returned to their ancestral homes.

Ndume, who distributed agricultural inputs such as fertiliser bags, insecticides, pesticides, and cash to thousands of people, mostly genuine farmers, including women and youths, as well as solar street lights, made a stop in the Warabe community.

He inspected the land designated for the construction of 500 housing units to resettle Warabe’s displaced persons as part of Governor Zulum’s rebuilding initiative.

While expressing the community’s ongoing need for development, Ndume added: “Like Oliver Twist, we may ask for more, but to be honest, Zulum has exceeded our expectations.”

Ndume paid visits to families who had recently lost loved ones, offering comfort and support during these difficult times, and a large crowd greeted him and his entourage in each community he visited.

Before storming Gwoza communities, Ndume distributed tricycles and other empowerment materials worth millions of naira to people throughout the senatorial district at his Maiduguri home.
