Gunmen Abduct Over 20 Travelling Dental, Medical Students In Benue
No fewer than 20 medical and dental students from the University of Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, as well as their house officer, were abducted on Thursday in Otukpo, Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benue State Command of the Nigeria Police, SP Sewuese Anene, has since confirmed the incident.
Anene explained that the students who were travelling to Enugu for their annual Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) convention, in the company of their house officer, were ambushed and kidnapped in Otukpo.
Disclosing the incident to newsmen in a telephone conversation, Anene stated that the incident occurred at about 5:30 pm on Thursday.
According to her, “A report was received that medical students from Jos were on their way from Jos to Enugu State and were kidnapped around Otukpo.
“They (students) were ambushed and kidnapped yesterday (Thursday), around Otukpo; they were travelling from Jos. The incident happened at about 5:30 . No further information has yet been relayed to us.
“However, the investigation is ongoing,” the police spokesperson said.
