Dr. Abubakar Audi, Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has praised the agency’s Cooperative and Investment Society Limited for ensuring that officers and men in the Corps receive necessary welfare packages.
The Society is an independent body established to, among other things, improve the welfare of its members through welfare packages such as housing, car, and farming loan schemes.
The CG gave the commendation in a keynote address at the three-day National Summit of Cooperative Executives.
with the theme “Recessed Economy: Options for Cooperatives for Self-reliance and Sustainability,” held at the Corps’ National Headquarters.
Audi, while opening the event, stated that his administration has continued to foster strong staff welfare by collaborating closely with the NSCDC Cooperative and Investment Society Limited to improve the economic conditions of NSCDC personnel.
Audi, the Grand Patron of the NSCDC Cooperative, admonished personnel to align with the Cooperative’s purpose, emphasising that given the Corps’ population size, much more can be accomplished with the majority of staff members.
He added, “It is time for us to devise strategies to bring all personnel on board. The Corps is a large paramilitary agency, and given our size, we can determine the viability of our cooperative.”
The NSCDC boss also took the opportunity to commend Corps personnel on their outstanding performance at the recently concluded nationwide protest #endbadgovernance#, saying they demonstrated a high level of professionalism as a testament to the Corps’ positive changes.
Speaking earlier in a welcome address, the NSCDC’s Cooperative President, Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC), Oladeji Aina, stated that the summit was necessary due to the country’s current inflation and other economic issues, as well as the need for the Cooperative’s sustainability.
Aina praised the Commandant General, saying that with his assistance, the Cooperative has come a long way in its efforts to establish a Micro Finance Bank.
He emphasised the need for a review of the IPPIS platform to prioritise Cooperative deductions over other non-statutory deductions, as the Cooperative society is the service’s second largest welfare vehicle.
There were also goodwill messages from the Director of Cooperatives, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Mr Salako Olusegun, and the Special Assistant on Cooperatives and Farmers’ Welfare to the Minister of State for Agriculture, Hon. Victor Oyodeke, who also spoke at the summit Technical Session.
The Cooperative Society has approximately 35,000 members, and summit participants were drawn from the Executive members of the 36 state commands and the FCT.
