DESOPADEC Contractors Seek Audience With Oborevwori Over High Costs Of Materials, Services
The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Indigenous Contractors Forum has requested that Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, granted them an audience so that they could work alongside his M-O-R-E Agenda Programme.
This call was made by Engr. Ogie Samson, chairman of the DESOPADEC Indigenous Contractors Forum, in a statement issued at the end of the Forum’s executive meeting,
said it was disappointing that, after more than a year in office, the Governor had yet to meet with them.
According to Engr. Ogie, “I was at a loss for words when a member of the Executive asked if the governor remembered the existence of the Forum despite its contributions before, during, and after the election that brought him to office.”
Engr. Ogie disclosed that he has personally funded the Forum’s activities, and he emphasised the importance of reviving DESOPADEC Indigenous Contractors to meet current demands.
He recalled mobilising people and some members before and during the election, as well as attending Governor Oborevwori’s Thanksgiving service following his victory in the previous gubernatorial election.
Engr. Ogie stated that there is an urgent need for Governor Oborevwori to convene a meeting with the executive of the DESOPADEC Indigenous Contractors Forum to discuss issues, particularly the contributions of members that will ensure the success of his MORE agenda.
He stated that the relevant issues to be discussed include, but are not limited to, prompt payment for contracts executed, contract variations, and increases in the prices of materials used to execute contracts, emphasising that the Forum does not want the challenges to jeopardise the Governor’s MORE AGENDA.
Engr. Ogie also revealed that the Forum’s Executive has been reassuring members about the challenges they face as a result of their leaders’ peaceful dispositions.
He continued, “With our understanding of a peaceful environment for development, we have been patiently sacrificing our time, energy, and resources to ensure peace between us, Forum members, and the government, in the hope that the Governor will call for a family discussion.
“It is been over a year, and the governor has yet to respond. This statement serves as a reminder to the Governor to act to contribute our fair share to the successful implementation of the M-O-R-E Agenda, and we trust that our governor will see the value in having a harmonious discussion with us in the Forum because now is not the time to cause chaos,” Ogie added.
