Protest: Borno To Bar Unaccompanied Children From Entering The State
The Borno State Government has reiterated its determination to address the influx of unaccompanied minors into the state.
Almajiris (children seeking Islamic education) were at the centre of recent violent protests in the state, and the government’s decision is viewed as an attempt to prevent a recurrence.
Prof. Usman Tar, the Borno state commissioner of information and internal security, announced the government’s decision following a State Security Council meeting on Monday.
Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno State, presided over the meeting, which took place in the council chamber of the Government House in Maiduguri.

He went on to say that one of the resolutions reached was that the transportation of unaccompanied children to Maiduguri would be monitored and controlled going forward. He stated that only children who have parental care will be permitted to enter the state capital.
The commissioner also stated that the Borno state government has pledged to continue assisting security personnel in carrying out their duties to maintain law and order in Borno.
He also stated that a key goal of the council resolution was to expedite and prosecute all cases involving arrested hoodlums.
The commissioner also stated that juvenile cases would be handled appropriately, and the Ministry of Justice was instructed to develop a juvenile justice system immediately.
He urged the public to assist security forces in maintaining peace and stability in Borno State by providing native intelligence.
