Prof. Babagana Zulum, the Governor of Borno State, has expressed a commitment to addressing the state’s manpower deficit in the healthcare sector.
The governor announced this on Sunday in Monguno during an assessment visit to the project site for the construction of a School of Nursing in the region.
He stated, “Human resources in the healthcare sector is one of the major problems in the country. To provide a permanent but long-term solution, we have decided to open a nursing school in Monguno so that shortly, we can produce health workers to provide healthcare services to the people of northern Borno.”
He went on to say, “We have also established another nursing school in Gwoza to meet the demand for more nurses in the state’s southern region.”
Zulum also stated: “In addition to the two nursing schools, we have established two eye and dental hospitals in the northern and southern parts of the state, with a comprehensive teaching hospital nearing completion in Maiduguri.”
“Inshallah, we will complete these projects on time and promise to equip them. What is important is not only the establishment of these tertiary institutions but also the human resources required by these health centres.”
He continued, “I want to assure you that we will recruit enough human resources to meet the needs of these three institutions. Above all, we will ensure that they are well-equipped and run on solar energy.”
The governor, on the other hand, expressed satisfaction with the contractor’s level and quality of work on the project and directed that the institutions be powered by solar.
